Does anyone have any experience with drospirenone? Just been prescribed as treatment for PMDD and anxious as all other birth control has made it so much worse.

I wouldn't touch it, it's a progesterone-only pill, and progesterone is what causes my symptoms. Your mileage may vary.

This has been my experience I had to have six weeks off work after the IUD but the specialist I am seeing privately said that it is a different kind of progesterone?

Unlike the IUD, it remains in the bloodstream for a very short while, hence the daily dosing. So you can stop if you start feeling worse. Many women with PMDD find it helpful.

Yes that is true, just so nervous about it, all previous attempts at managing it with birth control have been so bad and I have a two year old now so just don’t want to be feeling awful

This is what I thought because she said the reason the IUD was so awful for me was because they didn’t give me oestrogen patches but then has prescribed a progesterone pill?!

I was given the progesterone only pill once to deal with bad pms/pmdd - I was an emotional wreck after taking the progesterone tablets , the thinking behind it was to completely stop ovulation thus avoiding pmdd, Dr completely missed the point that pmdd is caused by progesterone intolerance.

I went to a different Dr who gave me oestrogen supplementation instead.
