My hayfever is awful this year, itchy throat and ears, itchy skin, streaming eyes that are also sore, feel sooo tired.. I have 180mg fexofenadine from the doctor one a day, took one 14 hours ago but forgot and took one just now, it was my DP that reminded me I took one earlier!!!

Is this dangerous?? I’ve seen online people are actually told to take more than one by GP sometimes so surely not

health anxiety here lol

No. You'll be fine.

liveforsummer · 02/05/2026 22:24

14 h ago, this could be the next days dose. You’ll be fine!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 02/05/2026 22:24

No, you'll be fine.
It's meant to be 180mg once daily, but one extra tablet after 14 hours won't harm you.

RandomMess · 02/05/2026 22:25

I was told to take 2 x 180 if I needed to by the consultant

MissCooCooMcgoo · 02/05/2026 22:26

You'll be ok, I just wouldn't take another tomorrow and start again Monday.

mynameiscalypso · 02/05/2026 22:26

Totally fine. A higher dose can be prescribed by a doctor.

MadBlack · 02/05/2026 22:27

I would say not dangerous, but I'm not a medical professional. I take it for fly bites, and just last week in Spain i took 2 in the morning and two before bed, for a few days. It helped with the itch and swelling and I'm fine now.

2024theplot · 02/05/2026 22:27

As others have said, no you'll be fine. I take 2 as prescribed by the GP.

Blueeberry · 02/05/2026 22:27

You can safely take much larger doses of fexofenadine - DD sees an allergist and he allows up to 8 per day when her symptoms are particularly bad (obviously this is off label though and only do so if advised by a doctor)

Strandas · 02/05/2026 22:28

The tested dose is 4 tablets a day, so you’ll be fine. I often take 2.

Me too by my allergy consultant.

FabulousFreshias · 02/05/2026 22:28

It’s fine, GP has told my daughter she can take 3 x 180mg a day

Cocktailglass · 02/05/2026 22:28

You will sleep well xx

It’s a newer, non drowsy antihistamine. No effect on sleep.

elm26 · 02/05/2026 22:30

I’ve been on up to 3 a day for the past 10 years as advised by my consultant for urticaria/hives/year round hay fever. You’ll be fine x

naanbreadforaxel · 02/05/2026 22:31

You’ll be fine. I suffer from spontaneous chronic urticaria and sometimes take 5 180mg doses a day.

WritingMum9712 · 02/05/2026 22:32

Thanks everyone!

I think I may speak to GP on Monday anyway to up the dose and see about other tablets, last night was so bad i was wheezing and could not stop coughing

i have to double up on Fexofenadine sometimes - I go for 180 in the morning and 120 later on in the day if needed. The most I’ve had from it is a bit of an upset stomach.

If you're getting asthma symptoms as well ask if you can get something for that rather than just more antihistamines, I’ve got horrible seasonal allergies and I need a cocktail of things. I have Fexofenadine, an inhaler and the latest addition is a steroid nasal spray that makes all the difference.

Terfedout · 02/05/2026 22:50

I'm prescribed 4 a day, so it's fine. 😊

HeyHowdyHey · 02/05/2026 23:09

Also prescribed 4 a day here. You will be ok

MrsCarson · 02/05/2026 23:22

I'm prescribed 2 tablets a day of the 180mg too, so it's not uncommon.

Have you ever had Xolair? It changed my life

skykiln · 03/05/2026 02:13

It's fine, I'm prescribed 4x 180 a day.

DoAWheelie · 03/05/2026 02:16

I'm prescribed two 180mg tablets per day so it's still a normal dose that you've taken rather than an overdose.
