Discoid eczma?

Hi,
Does this look like ringworm?
We went to the GP and they said it’s discoid eczema.
They mentioned that rashes like this are hard to diagnose.
They prescribed a topical steroid and an ointment cream. The plan is to try it for 10 days, and if it doesn’t improve, then it’s most likely ringworm and we’ll go back for different treatment.
It just doesn’t feel logical to me.
I’ve read that if it is actually ringworm, using steroids can make it worse and allow it to spread more under the skin.
I know there is such a thing as discoid (nummular) eczema, but for some reason my gut feeling says otherwise.
Also, my eldest has a similar rash on his leg (I have a picture), but the GP wasn’t concerned and said discoid eczema can flare due to various triggers.

Here’s a picture of my little one (hes 4) and the leg as well.

Has anyone experienced something similar?
