Should I contact the GP again about my son's worsening infection?

My son (5) went to the gp last Wednesday, was given antibiotics for his throat and double ear infection. He was sleeping all the time prior to the antibiotics. Once on them, they seemed to help a little. But once the course finished he seemed to be in pain still. So we went back yesterday and were given a different type of antibiotic.
Today he seems worse again, sleeping all day and night. Waking only for 10/15 mins every few hours.
should I be waiting longer for the antibiotic to work or contact the gp again? I’m not happy how he seems to of got worse again, but don’t want to be over worrying or either.

If he is that lethargic I would take him to A&E

Yes go back - more common these days with infections being resistant to antibiotics due to antibiotic over use :(

A and E

I'd ring 111 and expect to go to out of hours and possibly on to hospital

Yes for a 5 year old that can't stay awake, I'd suggest he needs A&E.

Yes he definitely needs to be seen again. Is he eating and drinking? High temperature ?
I would be tempted to take him to A&E tonight tbh

As a bare minimum I’d call 111. He shouldn’t be getting worse on antibiotics, even if they’ve not started to make him better yet. So the fact he is means he needs to be seen - he might need a different antibiotic or a stronger one. Trust your gut on this - get him seen.

I’d take him to A&E if it was my son

Is he doing any better now?
