Feeling ill when I go out

I’m in my late 50s and I’ve started going out less socially because I seem to hit a wall when socialising. I can last a couple of hours but then my energy plummets, my head feels hot, throat very dry and swollen and I find it hard to communicate. Friends my age and older carry on the whole night but I have leave early every time.
I have a good diet, mainly vegetarian with lots of fruit and good protein. I take exercise. I do night shifts however, these are 12 hours long and though I get tired, the symptoms are not the same at all.
By the way, I don’t drink a lot of alcohol and drink plenty of water.
Can anyone relate to the above?

are you seeing someone when you feel ill going out? maybe its nerves, or do you just not like going out?

It does sound like social anxiety. You could speak to your GP or seek talking therapy.
Maybe your friends are losing their inhibitions or appearing more sociable whereas, if you haven’t been drinking, you could be feeling as if there’s lots going on around you and start to withdraw. Just a theory based on the couple of hours in that you mention.

I would agree but I’m not nervous going out and it’s always later that this feeling hits. It’s a hideous feeling like I’m very run down

Are you doing the same thing , going to the same place, eating or drinking the same things when this feeling happens?

I'd go to a GP with those concerns, perhaps get a general blood test to check certain levels?

If you're not eating meat, you're probably lacking in iron.
Humans are omnivores are we often don't fare well having restricted diets.
