Private Thyroid Tests

Hi

From what I read our NHS GPs will only offer the bare minimum of tests re thyroid testing. I have some symptoms, but of course, all of similar to menopause symptoms (which I take HRT for).

I'm looking at Medicheck -I can be tested for quite a few thyroid markers:
TSH
Free T3
Free Thyroxine
Thyroglobulin antibodies
Thyroid peroxidase antibodies

plus other stuff 0-Vit D, Ferritin, inflammatory markers?

Has anyone used one of these - are they reliable?

I haven’t used private testing but my NHS GP did complete TSH, FT4 and TPOAb tests and arrange a follow up thyroid ultrasound for diagnosis of hypothyroidism and the underlying cause.

Might be worth seeing your GP re the symptoms before getting private tests done to see if they’ll do it?

If they suspect a thyroid issue then they will test and treat, and any ongoing management (eg levothyroxine and monitoring TSH/FT4 levels) would presumably be under your GP even if you get the private blood tests.

Yes use them often and very reliable! Think Medichecks have 20% off for 48 hours. Also consider Monitor my Health as they're an NHS lab and can be cheaper but dont test as many things.

My GP did thyroid testing, medicated at a sub-clinical level & does annual monitoring.

Maybe try your GP first?
