Struggling to sleep after a family medical scare, any advice please?

Sleep help please! I am really struggling to sleep since my mum had a collapse while I was on the phone to her. I will be exhausted and yawning but as soon as I get into bed my heart starts racing and waves of adrenaline go through me every time I might fall into sleep.
I haven’t slept for more than ten minutes at a time for three days. I’ve driven down to be with my mum and I am really struggling as the anxiety around this visit is just making it worse.
I sometimes can fall asleep but the adrenaline/racing heart wake me up again and I’m wide awake. I haven’t slept tried sleeping sat up but even that isn’t working now. Please help!

Can you listen to a podcast or meditation with earbuds in while lying down in the dark? Perhaps it will distract you and help you fall asleep.

I'm so sorry to hear, OP. You are exhausted and super anxious 😟 I don't have much advice but just wanted to let you know that a stranger onlinebis sending you best wishes ❤️ If you like milk, try to have some warm milk with honey, I find it relaxing. Not sure if you have access to any remedies but Kalms tablets can help a bit. I hope you'll manage more than 10 min sleep, dear OP x

Thank you both. I did listen to some relaxation music, and tried a podcast episode. Still zero sleep. It’s like my brain is fixated on sleep being a danger and keeps rushing adrenaline wheneverI start to go.
I really just want to go home 😔

who else can care for your mum?
sounds like you need to go home for a break, before you end up collapsing yourself!

I’m trying to set up volunteer support workers in her area. The hospital have sent her home with a leaflet and that’s it. Hoping to get onto the gp today too. She has friends but I don’t know them, she moved to this area about 18 months ago. There is no other family who can help realistically. My sister in law is lovely but she also has a family and work. My brother doesn’t speak to my mum.
i wanted to get power of attorney paperwork done too but it really feels impossible.

I’ve found that the local chemist does Kalms so will buy some today. Fingers crossed!!
Trying to get as much in place for her as I can before I have to go home.
