Protein in urine?

My DD had to be taken to A and E today, long story but she had a fever, seemed in pain etc. Anyway the first urine sample they took showed possible infection but the Dr felt it was because the sample was contaminated so we got a clear catch sample and he said all was fine, a bit of protein but no infection, she probably has a virus. So I just wondered if anyone can tell me what it means that she had protein in her urine? Fighting a virus?

many people spill a little protein into their urine when they are sick. it's usually quite normal and spilling should stop soon with no ill effects at all. hope she feels better soon

you can protein in the urine in the context of a fever. it's not unusual.

Oh thank you both of you I can stop stressing I think. Horrible horrible day and was beginning to worry about it in that tired way I have. That makes sense anyway, she did have a fever. Right I am going to get myself off to bed and hope tomorrow is better!

I would ask them to check for a UTI, if she has symptoms still- sometimes the level of bacteria are low- and protein in urine can be a sign of infection.

Thanks girlnextdoor they said to go back in two days if she still had a fever but it seems to have gone so fingers crossed she is on the mend. Which is lucky as we are off on holiday tomorrow, in the UK but still wouldnt be able to go if she was really poorly.
