Hearing problem or just not listening?

DS1 3.8 years is hitting his first 'hormonal' stage and as well as all the boyish boiterousness he appears to have lost his hearing! He is constantly saying 'What' (or pardon if he's feeling polite ) Sometimes if we wait he will respond to whats said so has actually heard but more often than not genuinely doesn't seem to have heard us.

Normal or should I get his hearing checked again? Think I will anyway but just wondered if anyone elses ds had similar

I think it's pretty normal. DS focuses on other stuff and doesn't seem to hear/process much of what's said to him. Every so often I carry out my own unofficial test by saying "DS, would you like an ice cream?" or similar, and he seems to hear that OK, so I tend to assume there isn't a problem -- have also (just in case) discussed with his nursery keyworker, who also doesn't think it's a hearing problem.

But if you're worried, get it checked.

Could be either, but you won't know without having it checked out.
