Posture corrector

I have terrible posture! I keep seeing adverts for various posture correctors that have straps or braces to push your shoulders back. Does anyone have one and do they work?

Go see a professional physio for advice
Find out which muscles you need to work on and which exercises

I'm saving up for that but in the meantime, has anyone tried one of these things and can tell me if they found it helpful or not?

I tried one, didn’t work because it forces you into the position and so your muscles ache when you take it off.

barkygoldie · 14/04/2026 14:50

No they don’t work. Physio exercises and Pilates do though.

I had one for horse riding. It didn’t make my posture perfect but did keep me aware of how I was sitting.

You should not spend money on one until you got advice on underlying issue.

Access nhs musculoskeletal service free you can usually self refer

If you can't hold a good posture without its help, it will be uncomfortable and counterproductive because you're not using the muscles. If you can hold a good posture with ease but need a reminder not to slouch then it might help a little.

UnaOfStormhold · 14/04/2026 15:21

Good exercises to try are back extensions, baby cobra and any chest opening moves.

Thanks all, nothing wrong with me physically I don't think, just super slouchy!

No they don't work... I started getting dowagers hump and tried it ...... What has helped has been losing weight and exercising and stretching. I have to do it in the morning or I won't do it.... Now I do at least something every day from YouTube videos most days a stretch routine sowm cardio weights and yoga or Pilates.... It's gone down and my neck pain has nearly gone.

I second this, the posture correctors are awful, uncomfy and I feel like I ache badly when I took it off. I have been doing a quick 10/20min stretch routine on you tube each morning which has really helped. Mady Morrison I think she’s called.
