Ramipril / Cough / Reflux

Hi all

End of Jan given ramipril for slightly elevated BP.
Started slight coughing in March which by last weekend had become an annoying dry cough, more so in bed.
Stopped ramipril last Monday and was given a new BP med to take.
I have long standing reflux issues which have been managed for yrs with omeprazole.
For the last 2 weeks my reflux has been playing up.
Has anyone had these issues with ramipril. I'm starting to wonder if it was the ramipril or just a coincidence.

The ramipril cough is a well known side effect I'm afraid, my DH has the same side effect.

I had both these issues with Ramipril, GP changed it to Amlodipine and my reflux settled down after a week or 10 days. I did augment it with some Gaviscon tabs at night. The cough went in a few days too.

I was on the same rampril/omeprazole combination for years and had the same cough / constant thick phlegm at back of throat.

I believe the cough was caused by the worsening reflux due to age and weight, but difficult to say for sure as started both meds around the same time.

I stopped both medications last year (after significant weight loss and diet changes to remove reflux triggers) and my cough is almost gone.

If you are not aware already - be careful with long term use of omeprazole, it is wonderful for the reflux pain and generally safe, but in some people (like me!) it can affect the absorption of B12/magnesium/calcium which over time can lead to other issues.

I had the Ramipril cough and was swapped to Candesartan.
