In a lot of pain what should I do?

What on earth is the answer to this? After highly back pain last week I woke up on Friday in agony. The base of my spine felt it was in a clamp and my left leg feels a bit numb and has shooting pains, can’t walk more than a few steps and dotting is very painful. I can ‘t get ou of bed apart from getting to the en suite. Rang 111 on Friday and they suggested I go to MIU but needed to speak to clinician first. Clinician didn’t call back.
I couldn’t go to MIU because no way could I get out of bed, get dressed and get to the car, I was crying with pain.
Yesterday I felt a tiny bit better but today seem to have slipped back again, leg feeling more numb. The problem is the pain and not being able to get out. Also Bank Holiday doesn’t help. I thought if it was a muscle tear or something I would feel a bit better by now, it is absolute agony at night.

I would phone again and see if they will send a paramedic out if you can't walk to the car are you on your own ?

If you really can't get out of bed, and your leg is numb, I think the only option is calling for an ambulance. It could be something serious.
Do you remember doing anything to cause the pain to start? Do you suffer with back pain?

I have DH to help me ( he is doing a great job) I have an arthritic right knee and had phisio for a tight psoas muscle on the painful side a couple of years back. I have a tendency to a tight feeling at the base of the spine. I’ve been doing a programme for people with arthritis at a local gym and to begin wondered if the yoga and body balance classes I did last week, and some resistance training might have caused this .

I had a similar experience and it turned out to be a herniated disc. But I remember reading that you need to get leg numbness checked out to rule out more serious conditions.

I've had some of your symptoms and had bloods done and found out I'm really low in Vitamin D. I've been prescribed loading doses of D3 over 7 weeks. So I would request a blood test for it. I was in agony and felt horrible nerve pain with it and numbness in my heel. Just waiting for it to work now. usually takes a few weeks.

Thanks for all the replies, I have called 111 and am waiting for a clinician to call me back. From Dr Google I am thinking maybe herniated disc and vitamin D deficiency can cause that, though gronky older body has many reasons to fail.

A good result! Within an hour of 111 saying they would call an ambulance two very lovely paramedics arrived and after lots of questions and poking and prodding decided there were no red flags and arranged some strong painkillers to help me get mobile, with GP to review in 3 days. I was very impressed.NHS at its best.

That is a good result least you didn't have to sit for hours in A&E hopefully the painkillers ease things.

That’s good. Have you tried heat? When I was like that, it was muscular and what worked was heat - so an electric blanket under the sheet and during the day a hot disk thing stuffed in my waistband that heats up in the microwave and stays hot for about 8 hours. Both of these were better than those Deep Heat patches. I also had the maximum dose of ibuprofen.

When it started, I was similar to you - numb leg, couldn’t walk etc. also urinary incontinence. Tbe GP checked me for cauda equina but it wasn’t that.
