Small white painful spot - down there

Sorry did not know which topic area to put this in.

This morning when I woke up and went for a wee it felt like I had a paper cut down there. Thought not more about it but as the days gone on it's become very sore.

I have previously gotten infected cysts on my Labia Majora which always start with a lump under the skin. This time it's different after investigating I have a small white spot on my Labia Minora. It's stinging like mad and burning, probably because I had to a lot of prodding to find out where the soreness was coming from. There is no lump like id usually get.

I have applied a warm compress to it, but do I need to see a GP. I've had to have antibiotics previously but this is different to what id usually get.

It definitely can lie dormant for years (most people have no symptoms ever and some people get them suddenly eg at menopause or during pregnancy).

Ive heard different from consultants im sexual health (i used to do a lot of voluntary work with sex workers).
It would usually show first out break then can lie dormant until trigged

Anyway try not to panic op until you see gum

Happy days eh OP! I too have had the odd issue as I've got older, mostly to do with dropping hormone levels. Good luck though and I hope you feel better soon.

Well I'm definitely in peri so if this is another one of the many symptoms I'm having it wouldnt surprise me

That's incorrect. I hope you weren't volunteering in an advisory capacity...

Any chance of it being an ingrown hair? I’ve been to the GUM clinic with one before as I thought it was something else. It was very painful and swollen and sat there for weeks until I had anti biotics

Yes and she'll be fine either way but important to know that herpes symptoms can come out of the blue and don't mean anyone has been cheating.

Op says she has multiple spots now. It sounds like herpes.

Glad you're being seen asap.

Catcatcatcatcat · 01/04/2026 15:09

Good luck.

LostThestral · 01/04/2026 15:12

could it be some sort of allergy OP?

I have considered it being an allergy as in the past certain sanitary towels have caused me irritation. But I haven't used sanitary products or changed anything that could have caused a reaction.

For the last few hours the soreness hasn't been as bad but I have been trying to avoid the area and have made sure I'm wearing looser clothes.

Ill update once I've seen a GP.

So I saw an amazing nurse who specialises in women's health. I had a thorough examination down there and the white spots are small cysts and the sore patches are my skin thinning through low oestrogen. She's prescribed oestrogen cream to apply for 4-6 weeks. She also thinks my immune system being low is contributing

Is that lichen sclerosis?

Papajohnsisontheway · 01/04/2026 22:05

I think she called it atrophy

So am I. It worried me sick yesterday I've never had an STI. Or even had the need to visit a GUM clinic.
