Low Serum TSH

DS is 19, always had good health, fit & active, eats well. He started university this year, had the usual fresher’s flu bouts - but has never fully recovered. He has had a cough (varies from dry to productive), temperature spikes and generally not feeling 100% for months.
He has done all the right things, even took 2 full weeks off sport & exercise but nothing is making a difference.
He saw the doctor, chest X-ray all clear & blood test all normal. The only thing is that his Serum TSH is 0.49. Normal range is 0.35 to 4.94, so although he is within that, it is low. He doesn’t have any of the symptoms I’ve read for hyperthyroidism but could this be connected? He is going to go back to the GP but I just wonder if anyone else has experience of this.

My TSH has been very low for several years. My last blood test showed it was 0.35 and the threshold is 0.3- they won’t do anything until it falls below.

They usually need to test Free T4 too but that’s not usually offered routinely.

@ChittyChittyBoomBoom that’s interesting - presumably (hopefully) it doesn’t cause any problems for you?

I have a multinodule goitre so they check my bloods annually but that’s about it really.
