Dull aching calf to foot pain at rest, worried about DVT

Woke up this morning, and gradually I started to get a weird dull sharp achy pain in my right leg, ally he way from my calf to the bottom of my foot, it reallyyyyy hurts! Especially when at rest, no where near as noticeable when I move ior walk, but when just sitting, (and when driving funnily enough) it's so so sore. No redness, or swelling...I'm wort id it's a.blood clot, I'm very health anxious.

I had a similar pain in my other leg just because Christmas. Had it in investigated with bloods and ultrasound etc and they said it wasn't a clot and likely sciatica, despite not having any pain in my thigh or back etc.

It doesn't feel like it's originating from my back. When I stretchy leg out and pull my toes towards to me, I can feel it hurting and pulling my calf.

I know no on can diagnose me but I just need some advice of what it MIGHT be as opposed to me panicking I've got a blood clot. Please.

I suppose it matters, but I'm morbidly obese so very overweight, I guess im more risk of a DVT, I don't know. But I'm panicking.

Hello! I am currently being treated for an L4 L5 disc prolapse....my only symptom for months....left calf pain. I went to the docs thinking it was DVT. It has slowly also developed into lower back pain luckily I am having some private treatment for it.

This is helpful thanks. I've been told sciatica when I had a similar pain in my right leg before Christmas but I brushed it off as I'd had no back pain anywhere higher than my calf, apart from the odd short sharp twinge.

I get calf pain like that sometimes just due to strain… walking a lot or wearing heels can do it for me. Call 111 if you’re concerned though.

I have sciatica but have never had symptoms in my calf it’s always in my bum and thigh. Never even occurred to me you could get it in your calves too. I often get cramp I wonder if that’s sciatica too? 🤔

I get those horrible cramps at night when you can feel it coming on, a Charly horse?? This ain't like a cramp though, it's like a deep seated dull ache and heaviness but it's sharp and it feels like ist coming from my calf from my knee to my ankle, all down the back of my leg if that makes sense.

I'd say your best bet would be the GP buuut, I got brushed off several times until I went private 🙄. I get the same in my right calf but on and off. Basically my nerves in my lower back are being compressed causing issues in my lower legs. I'm having denervation for it in April.

Sadly I can attest that you can ha.

Hi OP.
If you HAVE got a DVT you need urgent treatment.
Either go to A and E or an Urgent Care Centre.

I know I probably should but I'm reluctant as I often get fobbed off and put down to what they like to call "patient habitus" which is being massively overweight btw. I took some brufen which took the edge off but it's come back again as the evening had gone on.

My horrendous, months-long sciatica presented itself like this. It did eventually lead the thigh pain too but the most excruciating area was calf from just below the knee joint to my big toe. Never had any actual back pain.

Of course rule out DVT but in the meantime, keep your back moving if you can, OP. I found the NHS advice on exercises to do to help sciatica invaluable, once I could actually get in a position to do them. Now if I even feel a twinge, I get straight to them for a few days and it sorts me out.

PollyBell · 24/03/2026 03:10

why would it be DVT and not Plantar Fasciitis? do you usually get like this over medical issues?

I am very very health conscious. I've had plantar fascia before when I worked long hours on my feet and this is not that.

This is interesting. Mines from my knee, the knee itself is sore, and then the back of my leg, calf to heel, ankle feels sore too.
