Viral meningitis recovery

I am currently on day 10 of viral meningitis, day 3 in
hospital – I have had both antibiotics and antivirals and fluids given via drip and I’m on close observation in an isolation ward. I’m feeling marginally better but in between my pain medication is the crippling headache which feels like hot knives into my brain comes back if I’m so much as within an hour of my next dose of painkillers. I can only take paracetamol and Ibuprofen, codeine makes me sick.

Has anyone else been through this and found helpful ways of dealing with the headaches? I have two ice caps which I put in the freezer which really helped but they warm up quite quickly. Really hoping I can get on top of them as it’s affecting my ability to do anything.

Thanks in advance.

Hi op, I had viral meningitis 12 years ago and it was absolutely awful- you have my sympathies. The headaches were the worst I’ve ever experienced.
i would say that they stopped after about week 2. I had to have a phased return to work. I was weak as a kitten with fainting spells after. Look after yourself. It’s no joke x

Thank you @PennyPugwash- I was thinking phased return too (or even leave the industry, I’m a teacher and I’m pretty sure the pressure put me in here…)
