ITP and sun/heat

My ds was diagnosed with ITP in January this year (aged 16.5 months), rushed to hospital and given emergency treatment to bring his platelet levels up, which worked (they was at 3,000 when admitted). His levels went up steadily till today´s test, when they´d dropped back down again, to just over 100,000. The doctor said he´s fine, but should avoid strong sun and intense heat (we live in southern Spain), as this may set his immune system off, and not to let him out of the house before 7pm, and then with hat and sunscreen - has anyone every heard of this sun/heat ITP-trigger before? I am incredibly worried now, but I can´t find anything about the sun and ITP on the web. Does anyone know anything, or where I can find some info on the subject? I´ve already looked at the main ITP support site. Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Wrinklytum - I just told dh about your reply, and he is gobsmacked - never understood how incredibly brilliant and useful these websites are! No, I haven´t posted on a support group website, but will do, thanks for that idea. Also planning to get a second opinion when visit UK this summer.
