2 days post gallbladder removal - rectal bleeding

Had my gallbladder removed by keyhole surgery on Sunday, didn’t see the surgeon after so not sure what shape the gallbladder was in but guessing not good as i’ve had stones and pain for at least 4 years.

Anyway recovery has been normal enough, stopped taking painkillers last night as blamed the codeine for making me woozy. However i kept feeling woozy and lightheaded today. First bowel movement tonight and I have quite a lot of bleeding when i go to the loo. It’s bright red with clots dripping into the toilet, like a period would. But only after i poo. I’ve suspected for a while that i might have an internal haemorrhoid due to itching, could be due to that? I had an injection of Clexane before leaving hospital on Sunday.

Sounds like piles. Did you get constipated after the codeine? Its bad for that. If you had bleeding further up your GI tract it wouldn't be red, it'd be partially digested, black like coffee grounds

Agree with pp that likely to be haemorrhoids or possibly fissure from passing hard/large stool if you've not gone in a couple of days/been bunged up by codeine. I have internal haemorrhoids (diagnosed by colonoscopy) and when constipated whilst taking blood thinners was shocked at the amount of blood/small clots I passed. Doc said it was 'normal' in that situation. But if it's new for you then you do need to discuss it with your doctor (not sure whether that would be your GP or the team that did your surgery in your case though).

Plenty of fluids and if your post surgery diet permits increase your fibre. Really rate Dulcoease as a softener too, makes things easier. Hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

Thank you both, your posts were very reassuring and the bleeding has stopped now so as you say either a pile or a fissure. It was quite shocking the amount of blood that came from somewhere that doesn’t usually bleed!
