Should a bone graft hurt this much?!

I had a bone graft in my jaw and I want to know: is it meant to hurt this much? Two cocodamol plus 400mg Ibuprofen is needed to stop it mostly hurting,.and I can't take cocodamol in the day as it makes me feel sick. All the literature says "pain can usually by managed with paracetamol and ibuprofen" but I have had an awful lot of surgery in the past and if I take 100cg paracetamol and 400mcg ibuprofen I'm not usually in pain. Assuming it's not dry socket (unlikely as it hurt straight away), do I bear it for another couple of days? Or should I ring the dentist asap? My pain is up to a 6/10, it's distressing and it stops me doing many things. I'd appreciate your experiences.

Hi, has it been done for dental implants?

I had a bone graft for 2 dental implants. I can’t remember it hurting afterwards at all. In fact, the area was numb for 3 months.

I was in terrible pain for a week after mine (also for two implants), and then lesser/on and off for a further few weeks, However I had my sinuses lifted at the same so cannot be sure as to the exact cause.

As well as max dose pain relief I found heat really helped, so alternated wheatbags on my face pretty much 24/7. Could be worth a go?

If it is for implants then it’s the best thing I did, and would happily go through it again for the result (in the hope this gives you some comfort).

Thanks, all. I went in and apparently it was the stitches, my gums do not like them. Once they were out my pain went down to manageable.

Yes it was for an implant. I actually had the implant and all was fine but I later got an infection that ate bone.
