Csection “shelf”

Has anyone else been left with a shelf post section? My youngest is 4 and there’s no sign of it leaving. They were my second section and I didn’t have this issue before.

I honestly hate it. No amount of diet or exercise is getting rid of it. I’m on all ears for how!!

Yes I also have this. Again after first c section it was fine but my second c section means I now have this. Recently lost 2.5 stone through diet and exercise but the shelf remains!

I’ve had two c sections but I’ve never had this.
I think it depends on how stretched your skin was during pregnancy, but a lower body fat percentage will make it less noticeable.

I have had 3 vaginal births and still have the “shelf” situation, youngest is 7!
May friend had surgery on hers but to be honest the only people who see it are me and DP so I’m not that hung up on it now I’ve just come to realise the bikini days are gone and to cover up a bit!

I have this too after my 2nd vaginal birth. My kids were v close together in age and I think my skin really suffered. I hate to say it but 26 years later and it’s still there. I think the only way to get rid of it is surgery.

I've had 2 vaginal births and I have this.

I must say it improved a fair bit when I lost weight a couple of years ago but I still have it.

I used to think it was just a " me" problem but since reading MN I found out its a very widespread issue for a lot of women That actually has made me not so self conscious about it and more accepting.

Iloveeverycat · 08/03/2026 11:12

I have never managed to get rid of mine. I have had it for years. I would have thought surgery was the only option.

ThirtysomethingMummy · 08/03/2026 11:15

in my pregnancies I was the lowest weight I’ve ever been as I tried to be extra healthy and all had sever sickness throughout. My DC are only a year apart and I wonder if that has made my “shelf” worse!

Booooooooom · 08/03/2026 11:29

Yes I wondered that too @ThirtysomethingMummy - mine were 14 months apart and the shelf appeared!
