Invisalign bumps - I can't chew!

So the first few weeks I had trays but with no bumps on my teeth. I've got bumps now on and it's totally screwed my bite which means I have to chomp kind of almost open mouthed, and can't get a purchase on the food.
People said it gets better after a couple of days, but it's not better. Haul

why did they not put the bumps on your teeth from the word go? They are there for the trays to adhere correctly? Not sure why putting these on has adjusted your bite other than the trays weren't sitting properly and have now started to 'work' as they should

Squirrelchops1 · 01/03/2026 13:58

Are you eating with the trays in?

Don't know if it's linked, but I wore the first two trays for two weeks each because my orthodontist who also lectures in it, says this increasing evidence that it takes your body, I suppose bone and stuff about that long to start getting ready to move

Yeah. You might be right @Gatekeeper
The first four weeks were fine, a little uncomfort week one of course but now my teeth seem to bite my gum

I didn’t have Invisalign just traditional fixed braces and I found chewing difficult the whole time. I suspect it is a combination of the bumps and your teeth now moving so your natural bite will be off. Even once my braces were off it took me a while to get used to my new bite

Still struggle with salad leaf and very chewy meat.

Did you lose weight @Livelovelaughfuckoff

Sadly not! Didn’t reduce my eating just avoided certain things.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 01/03/2026 15:08

Has also made me the slowest eater in the world. I was always slow compared to others but now it seems everyone finishes way ahead of me.

It does put you off snacking. The hassle

Is it the bumps affecting your bite? Aren’t they on the front of your teeth? The bumps scrapped my cheek but didn’t affect my bite.

Is it maybe the actual teeth movements that have affected your bite? I had Invisalign and my orthodontist told me, and showed me on the computer model, how there was a bit of a period in the middle where my bite might be off as the teeth moved, and then it would come back at the end. Which it did.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 01/03/2026 15:31

Snacking is less of an issue with fixed braces as you don’t have the faff of needing to take them off and brush your teeth every time you eat something.

burnoutbabe · 01/03/2026 15:34

I had my first 4 weeks without attachments. It takes a while to get used to taking them on and off and using right level of force, never mind with the attachments.

i still chew oddly even 3 years later (on just night retainer now)

I did lose weight due to no snacking. For a while I ate more at my meals to compensate. I do tend to want to brush teeth quite quickly after any meal that has bits in (ie bread etc) so that kills snacking too.

burnoutbabe · 01/03/2026 15:35

Bumps wise I had 6 on back of top teeth and 6 on front of bottom teeth.

Paraguay · 01/03/2026 15:56

All of mine are on the front of my teeth 10 spread across the top and the bottom. It might be right about the general bite changing.
