Chicken Pox survival kit

Having recently had a DD who had chicken pox and gathered lots of advice from MN I thought I would summarise for you:

You need :

  • bicarbinate of soda for the bath. Helps reduce acid in the spots or something and reduces itching.
  • aqueous calamine cream. Much better than normal calamine as it doesnt dry the spots out which causes more itching. And you can actually cover the spots with it as opposed to watch it trickle off...
  • Alternatively Eurax cream.
  • Metanium cream for nappy area.
  • piriton.
  • calpol.
  • nurofen in case the calpol isnt effective for the full 4 hours.
  • children's magazines a godsend. Free gift, puzzles and new stories were good distraction.
  • maybe a new DVD as an alternative distraction.
  • oversized t-shirts as they wont rub the spots and will cover most bits.
  • nail scissors - cut nails now so any scratching has less effect.
  • oats for bath also good.

Feel free to add if you have any other tips

-Calamine bath and lotion,
-Vitamine e oil for afterwards to reduce scarring
-Bepanthen, to reduce icthing also.
-A very good SPF sunblock creme so scars don't colour in the sun.
-Ice lollies in the fridge - my DD was very thirsty and hot (we had it in that last hot spell)
-A new little fleece rug, for curling up and snoozing on the sofa - my DD slept but wouldn't stay in bed.
-wearing PJs inside out so seams weren't scratchy.
-socks over hands at night to keep from involuntary scratching - clip nails as you said
-wash hands regularly as germs can cause infections
-make a special treat to go outside to the park when they're crusty so they can let off steam

and a few GnT's for yourself!

Hello,
I was wondering I could ask some advice on chicken pox.
My 5 year old I think has it but only 11 spots in 24 hours. How long do the spots keep appearing in your experience and what is the time scale of them scabbing over?
Apologies for all the questions - I have never seen/experienced chicken pox so it’s all a bit daunting.
