Broken IUD copper coil

Back in August I had my copper coil removed at the GP surgery. Unfortunately only the strings came out, and the rest went AWOL! I had an ultrasound in September which showed it was 'low lying in uterus'. I was referred to have it removed and told it would happen in the next 4 weeks.
It has been 5 months, and I have phoned to chase for an appointment twice but have just been told they dont have any but will let me know when they do. They said they can offer me an appointment sooner but the location is a few hours round trip which will be a nightmare with work / kids etc. I asked both times if it is a problem to wait indefinitely and they just say its up to me. I assume it must not be at all risky or urgent, but does anyone know? If it isnt, ill just keep waiting for an appointment somewhere reasonably close to me.

that’s actually pretty appalling. I’m never usually one for complaining but in your situation I would call PALS and say that you absolutely need it removed immediately because it’s not in the correct place but also how so they know it’s not sharp and therefore cause an injury to your uterus?!
