On my DD's back? Its itchy and painful. No other symptoms but she's had a cold in the last week.

What is this rash?

Some sort of random viral rash? DD used to get a bumpy rash on her back like that when she was a kid and had a cold.

Ask a doctor.

She's 18 btw.

Does it look like shingles? That's what google image search suggests.

Shingles is painful burning and single sided

invitationtolove · 15/02/2026 14:12

Its on her right side, and painful.

Not sure if burning, but DD isn't good at reporting pain (autistic).

The shingles rash is often in a band along a nerve path on one side of the body. Cold sores or herpes simplex are round - if it’s yellow blistered and crusty it could be either of the two. Whilst cold sores are often around the mouth they can appear anywhere on your body!

That sits somewhere between a band and a round rash. It is difficult to tell from the picture what the texture of the rash is like.

If its just one side then it could be shingles. Might need antivirals

invitationtolove · 17/02/2026 16:49

Just to update: it is confirmed shingles. It's spread a bit since Sunday too. Apparently she doesnt need anti virals as she's not immuno compromised or old.

Aw I hope she feels ok - speedy recovery!

I hope she feels ok soon. My ds 17 recently had shingles & it really wiped him out for 2/3 weeks.
