Blood transfusion advice please

I recently had a blood transfusion as I was very anaemic and haemoglobin was 40. Its now about 105 now. I had 4 lots of blood bags. My friend who knows about medicine said blood cells only last 30days and then they die so I am worried all the red blood cells will die and I will be anaemic again. Is this true? And she said I can get BSE/CJD from it.

The life cycle of a red blood cell is more like 4 months, and since your donor wouldn’t have made all their blood at exactly the same time, they’d die off bit by bit, not all at once.

Have you had any treatment for the underlying cause of the anaemia?

I wouldn’t worry about blood born infections, donor blood is thoroughly tested.

Your friend does NOT know about medicine.
