Urinary retention after childbirth

Hello,
Was wondering if anyone had suffered from prolonged urinary retention after childbirth. I gave birth over 2 weeks ago and had an epidural which can make the bladder a bit lazy apparently, although the docs think it should have worn off by now. basically, i have little or no sensation in my bladder and can only feel it when it is really really full. Even then, i cant really wee - sometimes i manage to pass a bit, but generally i cant. So, i've been self catherterising after having my indwelling one removed earlier this week.
If anyone else suffered/suffers from this, did it improve over time and if so, how long did it take? the docs and continence nurse say it is just one of those things and it could take weeks, months or a year to sort itself out.
karin.
