Whats wrong with me? Really worried!

I stopped breastfeeding my dd(now 16 months) in February and since then I have had the strangest periods.

For the past 3 months my periods have been more or less on time (28 days) but have been really heavy first night to the extend that my bed sheets are saturated in the morning. The week prior to it actually starting though I have been having a browny reddy bleed. I have also been bleeding slightly after sex (not during period I must add). And this month it has come 9 days early - how annoying!

I went to GP a fortnight ago and he booked me in for a smear and suggested I go on the pill to see if that helps (I intend to start it at my next period).Had to cancel though as it came so early.

Past few days I have been itchy and burny down below and again gone back to GP who has suggested it could be thrush and given me an oral tablet to help.

I am really quite worried about this. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

You need to have an full internal examination to exclude simple things such as cervicitis(inflammation of the cervix), cervical erosions and infection.

I agree. GPs often try and put you on the pill, rather than investigating. The trouble is, going on the pill can mask symptoms of fibroids, etc. (I'm not saying all GPs are rubbish, but some of them can be dismissive of gynaecological problems).

Ask for a referral to a gynae- sounds like fibroids or hormonal imbalance more likely after stopping BF. Sure it's not serious- but you might need various treatments for heavy periods.

Similar post BF experience to you - also emotionally up and down - been prescribed oestrogen cream for itching, having acupuncture for emotional side. I came to the conclusion that its al linked to hormones. Have been taking high stregnth vitamin B complex and evening primrose oil for last couple of weeks and feel very different - not at the itchy phase yet (mine is 7 - 10 days before period) but emotionally feeling much more stable. The pill should help because it will alter your hormonal levels again.
