Metallic taste in mouth, hyper sense of smell making me gag

But I'm not pregnant. I had a 'weird' period a week early a couple of weeks ago.

Any ideas? I'm off to the Drs on weds as it's driving me mad but I've no idea what it could be. And she's the sort of Dr that I need to tell her what I want done or tested to get anything done.

everyone's probably sick of me reciting this story by now but here goes.....

with dd i was getting neg preg tests at 9 weeks and 4 days preg. the doctor did about 5, all neg, the hospital did a few, some quantitive and said there was no way i was preg, sent me for a scan as no period for 2 months..... and found dd fit and well 9 weeks old!

neg test doesn't always mean your not preg so i'd definitely get it checked out..... odd period combined with preg symptoms does suggest a pregnancy.

gosh PT, how wonderful! great story.

wigparty · 15/06/2008 22:42

Not really a nice option but a metallic taste in your mouth is often an indicator of gum disease - doesn't explain the other feelings though.

Moomin · 15/06/2008 22:42

May actually not be pregnancy but could very well be hormone-related. I had all kinds of pregnancy symptoms 1 whole year after stopping depo contraceptive injections - nausea, bad taste in mouth, dizziness.

I'm wondering about early m/c as well. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

glowwormish · 16/06/2008 10:46

I know someones wife who had all the pg symptoms but did countless tests all neg, went inot hosp for a punctured lung, had a scan (not sure how they went from lung to abdomen tho) and she found out she was 20 wks pg.

SoupDragon · 16/06/2008 10:47

I'm voting "pregnant" too

WenchConnection · 16/06/2008 10:48

pregnant.

Piffle · 16/06/2008 10:51

my ds1 was negative on pg test til 17 weeks..
I had breakthrough heavy bleeding as well
I'd bet on pregnancy hormones too

suzi2 · 16/06/2008 19:41

arg, some of you are freaking me now! I had a horrid morning again, huge bouts of nausea etc. Took my last test and it was negative. But of course I did that terrible thing of looking at it an hour later and in certain lights I think I might see something. Most likely an evaporation line. I'm 99% positive I'm having pg symptoms, and 99% positive it's not possible to be pg.

Just given away all my baby stuff lol.

the 2 times i gave away my baby stuff, i found out i was pg the next month........... just saying

SoupDragon · 17/06/2008 12:39

"Just given away all my baby stuff"

Oh, that seals it. Definitely pregnant

suzi2 · 17/06/2008 14:20

Do you think it's possible to make up so many pregnancy symptoms in your head? I think I'll feel much better after I see the Dr. I did another test today and it was negative. SO glad I've got loads of cheapo tests lol

OP posts:
looneytune · 17/06/2008 15:26

I think it is possible as I had all symptoms of being pregnant (metal taste, sore and leaking boobs, felt sick, tired, weepy etc) the month before I was pregnant (I'm due in 6 days) but then I was TTC and it was on my mind plus I'd not long been off the pill and think my body was just having a funny time.

You'll only know when you see the Dr. When are you going? Good luck and keep us posted!

Winebeforepearls · 17/06/2008 15:35

Didn't somebody on here have the same sort of metallic taste and sensitivity to smell and it turned into that really nasty flu/sinus infection that was going round?

Irregular periods may also just be a result of tiredness and/or stress.

But do go to your doc if you're still worried.

suzi2 · 17/06/2008 20:49

I'm off there tomorrow morning. Think I'll ask for bloods to be done as I'm spending half the day on the verge of throwing up and the other half totally fine. If it's a bug, it's been 10 days now. Very confused and have to admit that I'm warming to the idea of a third child... so maybe we might start trying in a few months lol.

Dr says I may be anaemic (though think that's even less likely than pregnant!) and thinks it's very unlikely I'm pregnant. Though she did say they'd do a blood hcg when I get my other bloods done on Monday just to be sure.

Her other thought is that it's just a weird hormonal blip. But if the bloods are all clear and I'm still feeling this way after my next period (assuming it's on time) they'll investigate further.

I added heartburn to my symptoms in bed last night... that started about 9 weeks with both my other two. Now, do you think even if it's a phantom pregnancy I can get away with eating for two?

me23 · 18/06/2008 15:06

i've had this lately, and feeling sick on and off, very tired but not pregnant! so maybe it is a bug going around?

bumface · 18/06/2008 15:31

I had a phantom pregnancy a couple of months ago. My period was two weeks late and by the time I was a week late I had loads of symptoms including the metalic taste, feeling sick, tea tasting like mud and would cry at the drop of a hat.

It was all very convincing. I started out really worried but by the time AF finally arrived I was quite excited by the idea. It was a mean trick for my body to play on me.

suzi2 · 18/06/2008 16:00

lol, I've gone from terrified and "how could this have happened?" to "oh, bummer, I quite fancied another". I actually think I just like peeing on a stick...

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 18/06/2008 19:21

Oh bumface, what a cruel trick indeed, I would have been convinced after 2 weeks, hell, i'm peeing on the stick after a couple of days . Love your name by the way, made me lol

suzi2 · 24/06/2008 21:14

Got a call this evening from the Drs reception to say that there's a prescription waiting for me for iron. I'm not anaemic, but the Dr says to take them straight away and to make an appointment as she wants to discuss my results in person. Now a bit and wondering if there is something up!
