Chiari malformation - decompression surgery

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this surgery and can maybe help put my mind at ease/stop me spiralling down a Google wormhole.

surgery is in a couple of weeks and it’s safe to say I’m terrified of the whole thing, will I wake up? Will something go wrong? How bad will pain be afterwards etc. Basically everything is whirring round my head and I read some chiari forums but found them very US focussed and fairly terrifying to be honest.

Youngest had it done just before his third birthday spent a couple of nights in picu a few more days on the ward and has had no problems since ...

Loves the scar ... especially when he gets a hair cut (they tend to think the clippers caused the white stripe up the middle of his head :)

@crazyBadgerthat must have been scary for you as the parent. Glad all went well for him.

Is there anything he has to avoid?
