Agonising throat - pics

I’ll go to the pharmacist as soon as it opens but I’m in so much pain. It came on really suddenly last night. Like glass to swallow my saliva and gagged brushing my teeth.

The pics aren’t very clear but it’s very red at the back of my throat and the uvula is enormous.

I’ve tried so hard to swallow paracetamol but I can’t it’s too painful.

Ige got three hours until it opens and I’m climbing the walls. My pain threshold is normally good (migraine sufferer).

Crush the paracetamol and mix it into yoghurt?

Dissolve aspirin in a small amount of water and gargle with it. This way it acts as a direct painkiller.

mungo55 · 28/01/2026 06:08

Soluble aspirin will help. Try and gargle with it before swallowing. Also sore throat sprays. Hope you feel better soon

Thanks. Do I need to see a GP? It’s the sudden onset bit that’s worried me. No cold symptoms.

Ooh looks painful. Any dissolvable painkiller and also try gargling with warm salty water. Hope you feel better soon.

I had this a few years ago, I did go to the GP in the end because it lasted 3 weeks but they weren’t much help.
the thing that made a massive difference was gargling several times a day with warm salt water.
you can also gargle with soluable aspirin and the pharmacist will probably give you a throat spray that numbs it and gives you some relief.
fingers crossed that it’s short lived!
