That's daft! What do you need earplugs for anyway. I had both grommits in and adanoids out and I didn't ever need earplugs!

Think they're taking the p

BTW, when hair washing and swimming I put cotton wool with vasaline on, and never dunked my head under!! Twas fine!! Spent the best part of 10 years having to do this though as the damn grommets kept falling out!

kee27 · 13/06/2008 22:24

lol they have told me that she carnt get her ears wet inside for a year as she is open to infection but as this is all new to me im not uptodate with it all if u know what i meanlol

Does she go swimming? If not and uses a bath rather than a shower ( most toddlers) I would suggest that normal shop-bought ear plugs would do. Ask the surgeon whether that would be ok. they are very much cheaper. Be very careful when washing hair .

Foldiroll · 13/06/2008 22:28

Yep, tis true about not getting inside of ear wet (although kids are kids tbh and I can't say I NEVER got wet), but a bit of cottonwool with grease on one side WILL do the trick! FGS I learnt to swim like that!!

They think they can charge because they aren't actually necessary iyswim. Like my maternity unit charges for pee-sample bottles, coz you can actually use any bottle from home!!

dilbertina · 13/06/2008 22:34

My dd had grommets in and adenoids out in January. We were told to keep water out of ears for 6 weeks. After that she could go swimmimng, but we were to keep an eye whether it caused ear pain. If so we'd have to get plugs etc. She swims now but has never had any problem.

madcol · 13/06/2008 22:35

Charging for wee-sample bottles? We should collect these anecdotes and take them to the press.

Foldiroll · 13/06/2008 22:40

Yeah, - did think it extremely unlikely that it was for a year, - but my memory is of constantly having ops and constantly having to keep water out of my ears because I have a mad immune system that threw out the 'surgically removed' grommits!!
