Friday evening I started with an uncomfortable feeling in my right side, didn't think anything of it. Saturday this feeling was still there but had spread to my upper stomach below my breast bone. I wasn't in agony but took some rennies (which didn't help) so continued with my day when I suddenly developed tonsillitis. (why does it come on so quick?!) I barely ate that night. Then today I woke up in pain with my throat and my upper stomach, it felt bruised and like i'd eaten a huge meal and it was stuck inside my chest. This pain/ discomfort then radiated to my upper back between the shoulder blades and I couldn't get comfy, i also had shooting headaches and my heart rate was up and down on my watch at rest. i took myself off to a&e after doing 111 online. I felt like such a fraud as I wasn't in agony but concerned about the heavy/ tightness I'd had. They did some bloods (have no idea what the results of these were) and an ecg which was normal. Dr was so lovely but seemed to think I was just a stressed mum. She's put it down to Gastritis caused by my tonsillitis. Is this a thing??? I was thinking it could be more gallbladder related. Anyway got antibiotics for the tonsilitits, I'm still getting this chest pain though, i'm convinced it's gallbladder related but I'm rubbish at advocating for myself, I just end up crying

Gallstones/ gall bladder. I've had it. See your Gp and explain all. Ask for an emergency appointment.

SlashBeef · 25/01/2026 20:52

Before I had my gallbladder out the pain from the gallstone attacks was truly agonising. I'd rather give birth again, honestly. It sounds like it was in a similar location to your pain but I'd really describe it as horrendous, can't do any activities, take your breath away pain.
My daughter used to get tonsillitis constantly and she'd always get stomach pain alongside it. Apparently that's common but I don't know if it's more so in children.

You got checked out, perfectly possible that you have stomach problems and tonsilitis, inflamed glands and infection in both places. The antibiotics will fix both.

What's more emergency than going to A&E and getting it checked out?

Thanks all, with having chest / back pain on and off (which is unusual for me) for two days I thought it was best I did 111 online which of course said go to a&e. Good to know gallstone pain is a lot worse, that puts my mind at rest a little. It honestly all felt so bruised to touch and like every time I swallowed it felt like a sharp chip had got stuck the wrong way in my chest ( if you know what I mean) and then the back pain where I couldn't get comfy.
I feel 50% better today, pain in my tonsils and chest still there but not as bad.
Good to know that your daughter had it and got stomach pain. I've have tonsillitis countless times and never had this before!
I was worried as recently I've been eating a high fat diet as Ivelost a lot of weight recently. So wondered if that had contributed to the problems I was having. Anyway we will see how I get on. I am due a drs appointment anyway in a weeks time for my heavy periods so I'm sure they'll bring it up then whe. they see my notes

So you haven't followed their advice to go and get checked out?

rainbowunicorn22 · 26/01/2026 11:35

I would not wish a gall bladder on my worst enemy. I remember having an attack when my dad was dying, I had a 2-mile walk and a long bus journey to get to him. I, was on the bus fighting not to vomit pain was off the scale and i went hot and cold it was awful. i was even taken to hospital on my granddaughters christening as i was so ill. get to your GP and get it sorted

MotorbikeStuntRider · 26/01/2026 12:19

It could be anything from gastritis, a hernia, gall stones, ulcer, constipation, viral, etc, go to your gp and ask for a scan/endoscopy. High fat diet would tie in with gall bladder issues though

Yes I had one on a plane journey and had to get a doctor in the middle of my night at the hotel. Awful.
