Had routine blood test this morning. Just had call from 111 to say a doctor will phone me within an hour with results but they rang because its been over an hour.. spiralling here... what could it be. Had to have them as been having shortness of breath with palpitations? Severe anaemia?

Hope they haven't kept you waiting and you've got your answers x

When this happened to a family member it was anaemia that required an iron infusion. Hope you weren’t waiting too long.

This same thing happened to someone I knew too.

I gave severe iron deficiency anaemua haemoglobin 44. Its been happening a long time but they want to do endoscopy and a gastroscopy but i dont want as have no GI bleeding apart from heavy periods. Poor diet too as no meat or supplements. Had CT Scan which identified pelvic issue. TUV revealed I have thick womb lining and polyp so have to gave hysteroscopy which I am terrified of cos lots of horror stories on here. Eeeeeek. Is there alternative?

There isn’t really an alternative way to properly look inside your womb without a hysteroscopy but you can ask for it under a GA?
And are you being offered an iron transfusion? Hope so!!

Rainagainandagain · 30/01/2026 23:49

Yes I had 4 units if blood and transfusion but now have red eyes that they said is ok????

As long as the irritation didn’t happen during the iron infusion I think it’s okay…and definitely you can refuse the scope offered and request a General anaesthetic for the hysteroscopy.

To counter the hysteroscopy horror stories on here I've had 2 with only taking paracetamol beforehand. They were rather unpleasant but perfectly bearable and I drove myself home afterwards.

I just wanted to share my experience of having a hysteroscopy. Like you, having read a lot of horror stories online I was absolutely petrified of having it done. However, my experience was very positive. I was reassured by the consultant that she would stop at any point if I wanted her too. I took a couple of paracetamol before the procedure and had no pain whatsoever.
