I have four lovely children and I need to address contraception. What are my options?

Is it reasonable to ask DP to go for the snip?

I think it is perfectly reasonable to ask DP to go for the snip!

also why not try implanon its an implant into your arm and lasts 3years!!!

CarGirl · 13/06/2008 16:26

mirena (coil with hormones in) is the most effective but many women don't like it/get on with it.

My dh won't have the snip, I don't want surgery to be sterilised and I've had my mirena removed......so back to condoms and hopefully no accidents.

mirena has the lowest amount of hormones by far. I had deepovara injections I got very very overweight on them!

the implant takes about 3mths to settle down due to the high levels of progesterone and you should have been told all of this before having it inserted.

I know it seems unreasonable of me, but I don't want to go on the pill or have hormonal implants.

People whose DH/DP has had the snip. Did they volunteer or did you suggest it?

It's come to a head because last week I had convinced myself I was pregnant again. It didn't feel ideal. Time to act.

My now ex husband booked himself in for a vasectomy before DS2 was even born! After 2 little accidents, he wanted to make sure there would be no more!

We are now separated, and I have a new partner, so had to sort myself out with contraception again.
I went on the mini pill (cerezatte), which is fine other than very irregular bleeding.

We have 3 children and DH took himself off for the snip. He was very open to the idea, especially as he is adamant he doesn't want any more children, and I am adamant that I won't take hormones for another 15 years.

(Unfortunately his didn't work and he is waiting to get it redone but that's not common!)

I think if you are sure your family is complete then vasectomy is a very good option.
