Stomach noises

Does anyone’s stomach and intestines make noises that are loud enough for people to hear who sit metres away? I’m guessing this isn’t normal otherwise we could all hear people’s stomachs processing? However I’m not in any pain, or have any bowel issues, although I have lost weight inadvertently in the last year (10kg - discovered at routine docs appointment this week). Has anyone else experienced this?

My DH had this. After tests they found a cyst on his pancreas.

Ooh thanks zzzmouse … I’m going to follow up with docs then as maybe something should get it checked … I had bloods done this week so maybe they’ll indicate too??

My stomach does this sometimes as do my colleagues. I think it’s normal… if you’re worried though go to the Dr, don’t take my word for it.

I think its normal sometimes. Eg: If you're hungry or have recently eaten. If its constant then there might be something wrong. Mine always seems to do it at the end of yoga class when everyone is lying down silently. So embarrassing

I think a loud rumbling tummy can be normal. I used to munch through packs of rennies in exams that were near lunchtime in an attempt to try and quieten my hungry tummy!

Maybe if you've never experienced it before check with your doctor.

I have it daily, at random times not just when hungry but can happen whenever. It wakes me up in the morning and wakes my partner up to be honest too.

Mine has started doing this the last few months, it's outrageously loud. I am a bit concerned about it as its came out of nowhere. It's not a hungry stomach rumble but more like my insides are ready to bloody pop with the racket?

PoppySaidYesIKnow · 21/01/2026 21:54

If it’s new then I would mention to the doctor but I’d be more concerned that you’ve lost 10kg without trying. That warrants investigation.

Surely unexplained weight loss if you haven’t made any changes should be checked out anyway? My tummy does make random noises, I think it’s just noisy anyway but I do have Ulcerative Colitis so it can be worse in a flare up.
