Finally going to the GP

I believe I am suffering with a rectocele and a rectovaginal fistula. I am experiencing faecal leakage through my vagina during and after a bowel movement. I also feel as though I cannot fully empty my bowel and have to manually extract faeces that I am unable to push out. I am suffering with heavy vaginal discharge (slightly yellow, watery, no smell) and also now vaginal bleeding (pinkish). I do take my birth control continuously so unsure if breakthrough bleeding or related to bowel condition. This has all been going on since last summer; previous to that I was suffering from vaginal cysts and I wonder if these have caused the fistula. I have seen the GP once in my old practice who examined me and said I didn’t have any of these things, I had faecal incontinence and prescribed me laxatives which really didn't help and I knew the faecal leakage was coming from my vagina… the GP was so dismissive. I have now changed surgeries due to moving house and have finally plucked up the courage to go back and get things sorted, I have private healthcare so hopefully any referral shouldn’t take too long. This condition(s) is really affecting my confidence, quality of life and health anxiety. I feel disgusting and haven’t even told my husband as I’m too embarrassed. Has anyone else had similar health issues? Who did you get referred to? Thank you for reading.

Hi OP.

Skip the GP. Call your private insurance, they usually have a GP included in the package. They will tell you who you should see and do the referral.

I saw uro-gynae for my recto-enterocele. Can recommend him if you are South.
