What is this - has anyone had this?

Last night I had just dropped off and I woke up with such a start with a feeling of complete fear, that I was going to be sick, heart racing…. Awful. It happened about 3 times just as I was going to sleep. I then had some water and a mint tea and stayed awake for half an hour as it settled and then went to sleep ok. This morning I feel ‘hungover’ - puffy eyes, banging headache, a tad queasy and very tired. My period is due in 1/2 days.

I have had night time panic attacks around period/ovulation. But I want to see if people think that’s what it is/have this/if common or not.

I’m 38, two kids, my hormones over the last couple of years just seem to be completely crazy around ovulation and my period. I only usually feel ok for 3-5 days a month. I’ve been seen by doctors in the past who have done blood tests and said everything is fine…. But I don’t think it can be? Unless this is normal?

I’m going to suggest maybe peri menopause. Mine started late 30’s.
Peri is when anxiety, disturbed sleep and palpitations start.
symptoms do tend to ramp up at certain times, depending on your cycle.
Do you know what bloods were actually tested and your levels? Thyroid can also cause issues, as can low B12/Folate/ferritin, even if in the low end of the ‘normal’ range. Vitamin D also. They all contribute to anxiety, dread, sleeplessness etc so, even if not peri, it’s worth looking at your actual blood test results and comparing them to the labs reference ranges, it’s worth getting things in the optimal level, rather than accepting low normal.

High strength magnesium in the evening may help too.
