Two molars to be extracted

I have had a pretty shocking dentist appointment today and feeling really upset. I have had a recent abcess on one of my molars (second molar, so 6th tooth along from front) and I’ve never felt pain like it (worse than 2 unmedicated labours) My dentist said that root canal would most likely fail because there would be very little tooth to attach a crown to and he has seen cases before where a patient had similar, had root canal but then had to have it extracted. He said it should be extracted and the same tooth on the opposite side is cracked beyond repair so should be taken out too. I think I have genetic issues with my teeth and after breastfeeding both my babies and with age my teeth seem to have suffered (apparently my hygiene is good)

wondering if anyone has had these teeth out? Looking in the mirror the 6th tooth
along doesn’t show but concerned I will be self concious/ it will feel really weird. I wouldn’t be able to afford implants for some time I don’t think.
Anyone experienced this?
i currently get maternity exemption as have a small baby so won’t need to pay but still so upsetting

Definitely get it done while you’ve got the exemption! What great timing!

I had at least 4 molars out as a kid, totally fine. Had enamel hypoplasia on those teeth so lots of fillings, an abscess, a root canal, then repeated root canal with a pin in the tooth as there was such little tooth left for the filling to cling to. Just get them removed.

In fact I just counted and mine were the 6th along too.

Thanks for your message. This is reassuring to hear although sorry you’ve had to undergo all the treatment. Do you ever notice it missing / can it be seen at all?

Hi
I just counted! I had my 6th upper tooth removed after a failed root canal.
its been fine, I have never noticed it’s absence and it can’t be seen.

Ahh sorry you had to have root canal that didn’t work. I hear this happening quite a lot! Glad it’s not bothered you since having it out. Hoping I won’t notice them missing either.
