White cells in urine

Hi all, just after a bit of advice… sorry if this is a stupid question. I’m ND and a huge over thinker.

I had kidney stones 14 months ago and worried that I was having another episode before Christmas so I saw a private urologist. No sign of any more stones and my symptoms have settled however I have white cells in my urine. Having looked back at my medical records since my kidney stone episode, this has been the case in the three urine samples I’ve given since then, but wasn’t deemed as an issue as my GP never mentioned it.

I did a repeat urine sample this week (5 weeks since the last) and the consultant has written to me to say white cells are still present, but no bacterial growth. He has said if I’m having any ongoing issues to let him know and we can discuss if any further investigations are needed. I’m not having any symptoms but should I be worried? Is it worth me going back to the consultant before he discharges me or is it pointless as I have no symptoms and no bacteria growth? I have private health insurance.

White cells can be a sign of kidney stones, id probably get it looked into if you have private health insurance. Wouldn't want to leave it and it possibly progress and you end up in pain from stones.

Thank you. I have just had a CT scan that showed my kidney stones have now gone so I think they can be ruled out. I was just worried in case it was something else and if it was worth following up whilst I was still under the consultant. Thank you for replying.

i was told that white cells mean they are fighting infection. so that could mean a bacterial or viral infection of some sort. If there is no baceteris presumably it couod be viral? i dont know enough to understand this stuff so if i were you i would ask.

You could advise them if you feel you have anything else wrong, the cold or a bug - or arthritis or something inflammatory or if you are on any medication, as these things could be relevant.

Look up sterile pyuria - you can have white cells without infection and usually is not something of concern.
