In 2020 I had a smear test which came back positive for HPV. Id never heard off HPV but I think its something they routinely test for now and im aware they now offer the HPV vacciantion to school age girls. I was told my immune system should clear it and to come back within a year to check. I returned a year later and had another smear which came back negative. I was then told I didnt need to have another smear until 3 years later. I then had my smear a few months ago in october 2025. I was positive. Im so confused as ny last smear was negative and I have had only had the same sexual partner since 2019. What does this mean? Have i been reinfected by him as men dont have testing or was it dormant and missed on my last smear? Which worries me incase this could lead to cervical cancer and could be missed if dormant again? What's the reason I had it 5 years ago was clear 4 years ago now positive again?

Yes it can be passed back and forth. I had it for 3 years of smear tests so had to go for the colposcopy which was normal so they put me back onto 3 years again which was this year. This time I was finally free of HPV. However I’m under no illusion that it won’t pop back up again!
