Anyone know anything about vitamins?

I’m a 55 year old woman. I’m post menopausal (well, I’ve not had a period for about 2 years, but I do have a coil). I’m physically very fit, and I eat very well, with little sugar and alcohol (did drink a lot but given it up as it woke me up at 2.30 and the hangovers are not worth it).

I did have terrible symptoms in the early menopause days but very luckily they diminished with things I tried.

I’ve just necked a whole load of vitamins I’ve got in my cupboard as part of my new year efforts. There’s a multivitamin for women over 50, Ashwangantha, magnesium, omega 3, collagen, vit D. Honestly I nearly choked to death. Take 4 of these, 3 of them…..

So it’s got me thinking. I eat loads of fresh fruit and veg. I eat fish, but could eat more. My diet is good, and I eat a lot.

Do I need all these vitamins if I don’t have an issue?
Also, I’d rather tell myself that if I need magnesium then I’ll eat more Xxxxx or if I need omega 3, I’ll eat more Yyyy.

Are there any resources out there that can tell me what foods I should eat to replace the powdery capsules the online quizzes say I need and are £££££ and my question is, are vitamins just a gimmick to part me with my money and pee out in the toilet?

Hi I’m nearly 55 and post meno with very few symptoms. I eat very well( I follow Zoe though not a subscriber) and I also barely drink these days. The only vitamin I take is D3 throughout the winter at a high dose because of the lack of sun in UK that is strong enough. I feel well, walk lots with my dog and use a kettle bell at home for strength workouts. So, no I doubt you need those supplements- the industry is making billions from the ‘worried well’.

This is an area that AI is very good for - designed for in fact.

Hi Upstairs,

Would you mind expanding on that please? How would I do that?

Hi can I ask do you just take D3 on its own?
my Vit D is low and was advised to take Vitamin D but having read up on Vit D Wellness site it states you should take D3/K2 and magnesium in order for the body to absorb Vitamin D .

I use Nutrition geeks D3 and K2 in one tablet. I find Professor John Campbell useful on this subject- YouTube. We should all be taking higher doses
