hiow much gaviscon can i actually take?

took 2x5ml spoons a couple of hours ago.

feel like guzzling the bottle down tbh.

take bets on another hairy baby later.

Sorry misdee, I can't remember - but I've been suffering from stress-related indigestion/heartburn recently and just wanted to sympathise with you. It's truly awful.

You can take 20ml at a time. I used to swig it from the bottle.

If its really bad, then Zantac (ranitidine) is safe to take and works much better.

Can you drink milk? I found this and sitting/sleeping! as upright as possible helped. Don't really know about Gaviscon sorry. Milk made mine a bit better. hated heartburn, you poor thing.

Ask the doc to prescribe you Zantac if it gets really bad, I know they are a bit iffy prescribing it in pregnancy but one tiny tablet works wonders.

I have stopped using spoons and just swig the Gaviscon.

As much as you want, afaik. The worst it will do is give you wind .

What did you have for dinner? I found that certain foods triggered mine (orange juice, fresh bread and cream were particularly bad culprits) and once I avoided them the hearburn only happened occasionally.

Eating a plain oatcake also helped a bit as it sort of keeps everything down a bit.

I was told to avoid drinking during an attack too, as apparently liquid refluxes more easily than solids so makes it worse.

I had horrendous heartburn and I didn't use a spoon, I drank from the bottle! (I had a very hairy baby too!)

ooh i slept with a huge bottle of gaviscon next to my bed for the last 3 months of pg. it was terrible. just used to swig it from the bottle as it was so bad it woke me up several times a night!

Honestly, misdee, if Gaviscon isn't working too well, try Rennie.

It's like the old pep-up argument. Some people swear by Red Bull (doesn't work for me), and some people swear by Pro-Plus (does work for me).

Perhaps you're a chalky girl when it comes to pregnancy indigestion?

I have been guzzling Gaviscon. GP prescribed a big 500mL bottle.

But I'm probably going to have to move to Zantac in 3rd trimester here.

I had horrible heartburn with DD2 and she was bald as a cue ball.

(re the pg, obviously, not the heartburn!)

I took Zantac from around 14 weeks with dd2 (have a hernia courtesy of pg #1) and later on, when even that wasn't heping, I took Omeprazole, with OB's blessing. Zantac is far, far better than Gaviscon and has been used a lot in pregnancy with no adverse effects.

Heartburn is awful, and if untreated can damage your oesophagus, so hope you can get whatever meds you need asap.

I got an ulcer in my oesophagus with DD1 from it, Eli .

I had a shite GP and crap midwife care and thought all I could take was Rennie's.

I also had to take some mega drugs in hospital for the acid reflux.
