Is this a cold sore?

My baby has spent the last 2 weeks licking the side of his mouth. He's now got a tiny white spot at the side of his mouth (where he was licking). Is this a cold sore?

ooh that sounds hopeful (never thought I'd say that about thrush!)
What does that look like? Haven't seen anything inside his mouth, but haven't really looked. He is developing a cold at the moment, and the whatever it is does seem to be localised, he's been licking that precise spot for weeks.
Just to add to the confusion he's teething and has been dribbling like a golden retriever for the last day or so.

Well, it certainly doesn't sound like a cold sore. Could just be an infected pore, if he keeps licking the area and is a bit run down? Doesn't sound like anything serious, in any event (unless it multiplies!).

I could kiss you both! But I'm sure you don't want me to
I hate the thought of my little boy having a cold sore

Cold sores are normally external and look like a red sore blister and then scab over within a few days. I think the suggestion of thrush is worth investigating. I'd go and see your local pharmacist if I were you and if it is thrush you can buy Daktarin oral gel over the counter to treat it.

Cold sores aren't white spots, they're blisters. In a small child, the first time they get them, they are often very ill with a fever and often do get them inside the mouth rather than just one on the outside edge of the lip as is common in people who've had them before.

The spot is external, however it's not got any bigger, in fact I haven't even looked to see if it's still there (yes, it is that small!)
From what I know about cold sores it would have spread by now, and no he's not fevery or anything - justa bit full of snot and hoarse
Yes, the problem is that my mum had one a couple of weeks ago - which is why we were stressing. Feeling a bit better
