Functional medicine - help

Hi, I need some help figuring out what to do next, I feel a bit emotional! I've seen a functional medicine practitioner for some health issues, I'm not on any prescription meds. I started on a low carb diet with quite a few supplements.

After 2-3 weeks I've had a couple of alarming side effects. After the first side effect (low blood pressure, I almost fainted sitting down) I emailed the practitioner but had no reply. Now I've had another side effect so I'm losing faith in the whole thing.

Part of me wants to just message them, say this isn't working and cancel the follow up and I'd be an idiot to continue. Part of me, thinks I'm being a wuss and wonders if I can get hold of them, maybe we can work it out. What would you do? I was so hopeful this would be the answer and I can't even work out what to say.

What supplements? And why are you wasting your money on quackery? A low carb diet can be really great (with actual evidence in certain health conditions), but there’s none that shows functional medicine achieves more than making the charlatans that practice it rich. You’d be better paying a private GP or medical specialist in your area of concern for investigations and treatment advice.

Functional medicine: Reams of useless tests in one hand, a huge invoice in the other | Science-Based Medicine

"Functional medicine" preaches the "biochemical individuality" of each patient, which is why one of its key features is that its practitioners order reams of useless lab tests and then try to correct

This is all too vague to give any kind of view

Why did I go to a functional medicine practitioner? Desperation! You're right, I should have gone private.

What is the actual health issue you are trying to resolve and what are you taking?

If you’re wanting your diet to improve your health then see a registered dietitian. They’re the people qualified and regulated in nutrition for the promotion of health.

If you are exp low blood pressure after changing your diet to low carb then start eating carbs again.

They should have replied to your email.

To ignore a patient is unacceptable in my view.

I’d phone tomorrow and leave a message asking for them to call you urgently.

You can be practically fainting all the time. Sod that. You need to eat more. If they don’t phone you back tomorrow I’d increase the carbs and probably not go back to them.

Eat protein with every meal. Drink 1.5l of water a day. Do yoga.

What’s up with you that they are trying to sort?
