Nail emergency!

Can anyone advise? My 4 yr old got his finger crushed in a deck chair on holiday and the nail got very damaged. It didn't even go black, it just went white and got infected and is now hanging off, held only in place by the cuticle. The infection has gone (antibiotics) and I have trimmed it right down to avoid it being ripped out of the skin/cuticle. What else can I do? Will a new one grow? When and how long? Should I be trying to remove this old one? It doesn't hurt him but he keeps fiddling. THanks

Let it fall of naturally, keep it trimmed as low as possible so that he cant catch it otherwise he'l be in agony.

It will grow back, I did something similar on my foot once - took a while but it did grow back fine.
