FIL worrying symptoms

AlwaysHopefull89 · 01/12/2025 20:42

DH has recently told me FIL has had changes in his bowl habits for about a year now. They are quite loose and come on usually after he has eaten something…

Past month he has noticed a ‘pencil thin’ stool and also his stomach is bloated and hard over the past few weeks.

does this sound like IBS or something for sinister?

He also has been complaining about feeling extremely tired and with back pain?

Trip to the doctor I think.

Clearly no one here can answer the question of what is causing this op. Those symptoms are some of the ones I had before my crohn’s diagnosis, but equally they could be symptoms of something far more (or far less) serious.

I delayed seeing my GP, but by a few weeks beyond the 3 weeks they suggest you wait, not months as it sounds like your FIL has. He needs to see his Dr, and he needs to clearly explain his symptoms. My own DF was a nightmare for down playing how bad he was whenever he saw a health professional, so it might be worth someone going in with FIL just to make sure the GP understands how major these changes are, and how long they have been going on.

Hopefully it’s nothing serious, but whatever it is, the sooner it’s diagnosed the sooner it’s treated.

Thank you. I have been googling his symptoms and it does sound like Cohn’s also.

he is a serious down player of symptoms also so I think DH should ask MIL to go.

Bump please , anyone else maybe got an opinion? Saw him today and he seems fine (obviously not going to act like he is in pain)

It’s really important to see things through. Thin faeces can mean an obstruction amongst other things

Thanks, he has had bloating in stomach too which was a main concern. He is doing a feces check through the post and we will send it off.
