Ok this may be long, About a week ago i was given diclofenac at the maximum dose for tendonitis, i havent had much appetite whilst being on them and didnt eat much over the weekend. Yesterday DH made me roast dinner with piles of veg, i ate all all of it and about an hour after eating it i started getting the most horrendous cramping pains in the bottom of my tummy, i went the toilet, had a small bowel movement and went downstairs.
The pain stared up again to the point where i was actually sweating, back off to the toilet, again only a small BM, 10 minutes later in back on the toilet again, this time i had quite a violent (sorry) BM and afterwards the pains went and i didnt think anymore about it.
This morning i woke up and started getting cramping pains again, went the toilet BM was quite loose and it had bloody mucous over it (bright red) the pain continued and i went another 3-4 times, each time there seemed a bit more blood, i called DH home from work and he insisted i go the doctors, got an emergency appointment with the nurse who checked me for piles (and couldnt find any)
I took the leaflet of my medication with me and she reckons the bleeding could be caused by these anti-inflammatorys not agreeing with me, if its still persisting in 2 weeks i am to be sent for further investigations.
Now i have severe health anxiety and i am convincing myself i have bowel cancer, the nurse says it would be very rare for a 25 year old to have bowel cancer but i am still panicking. A question iw anted to ask is, is the cramping pains i have a good sign or a bad sign? have googled and i seem to have the symptoms of inflamed bowel, and the nurse says the bleeding could continue for a while yet. What do you all think? does anyone have any experience? i realize i sound a complete nut but i would be very grateful for any input.

oh poor you yuck, you have my sympathy. I would be willing to bet one of two things going on here. 1. You had a horrible cramping session and strained, your bowel got a bit inflammed with all the "palava" and some lining sloughed off and came out with the poo. 2. The meds don't agree with you and caused similar to the above.

If i am honest though, i think the blood would have been darker if solely due to the meds as it would have come from higher up. But then if you did scrape a bit off as in 1. then it will be worsened because of the meds.

Are you on any medication for the anxiety - that can interact with anti inflammatory medication.

You don't sound like a nut at all - i have health anxiety too and its horrible. I am on ADs for it and they help a great deal. I also have banned myself from google, i suggest you do the same [stern look]. ITs so easy to tie yourself up in knots. I would honestly say, if this bothers you excessively go to the doctors and ask about the ADs. Im still paranoid but i can rationalise now. Believe me, i reckon i was close to getting banned from the surgery. I was there almost screaming with hysteria once, i thought my tonsils were tumours .

I think we all get a bad tummy from time to time, i know i have been doubled up in pain sometimes. Often at the most inappropriate times (then the stress makes it worse). If you have health anxiety and general anxiety you are bound to get dodgy tums from time to time. Try not to worry, the nurse is right.

FWIW, i used to be a vet nurse and your poo sounds just like the poo that dogs do when they have an enteriris or something irritating the guts. Owners often panic but there is no need, its quite common that when the bowel gets inflammed you will see this. Especailly mucousy. They get it more times than not actually. Sorry, total TMI buy hey.

If the bleeding does continue though i would book to see the doctor tbh, because i would be concerned about the anti inflammatories, they might be able to prescribe something else.

Thank you LEM, am not on any AD's now no, although at the moment i feel like i really need them The nurse has taken me off the meds and told me to steer clear of that type of painkiller in future. Thanks for your input, i feel strangely comforted about the dog poo thing, and you made me smile with thinking your tonsils where tumours X

loopy go to the doctors and ask about the ADs. My health anxiety was ruining my life, and my partners - i was almost incapacitated by it. Its like once a thought starts in my head, that would be all i could think of to the exclusion of anything else. The ADs controlled this and gave me back my life.

I hope you are feeling better. HOw is your tummy now?

loopylou6 · 09/06/2008 18:16

Hiya LEM. Tummy feels ok now, i had some tea even though i was terrified after what happened after eating last night, i had very slight cramps but nothing much, its tomorrow am worried about when i know im gonna have to go the toilet
I was on medication and therapy for health anxiety, it did help but recently its been creeping up on me again so i will probably go back and ask for help again
