Can anyone with peri relate to this

I've been told my symtoms are down to peri, this is after having a host of blood tests which are all normal, as well as an ECG, echo, Xray holter monitor etc.

I'm 43 and have been suffering for a year, mainly with palpitations (after eating carb rich foods), sometimes lightheaded, fast pulse when going from sitting to standing/walking, feeling of not getting a deep enough breath in, BP which fluctuates on low side (one day will be my norm. of 115/70, next day it will be 105/63).

My periods have shortened (now only 2 days but still very heavy).

As I said, bloods normal, not anemic (Hb 12, Ferritin 65, b12 350).

Anyone had the same symtoms? I'm feeling down as this has been going on for 1 year

I'm in meno now, but yes to all this! I still have palps if I eat too much. The only thing that helps for me is exercise. If I manage a good, vigorous session, all is well.

Normal. Though I've had the palpitations since I gave birth 15yrs ago. They are anxiety basically.

Which HRT are you on?

Did they test your folate along with b12? I’d otherwise say pretty normal for peri but the feeling of not getting a deep enough breath in I had with low folate (borderline low so NHS didn’t treat, but otc supplements solved it for me).

The breathing thing is anxiety. It's so, so common. Didn't the GP tell you that?

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 28/11/2025 14:14

Learn to breathe into your diaphragm, it really helps.

Amberandgold · 28/11/2025 17:20

@givemeanother my folate was 5 which is not technically low according to the NHS ranges but I've been taking methylfolate supplements for 2 months, can't say I've noticed a difference.
@Justputsomeyoghurtonit I'm not on HRT yet.

I also thought BP was meant to rise during peri, not fall..

did you take a b12 supplement with the folate? The two work
together and your b12 level wasn’t that high either. Might be worth trying both - I take 2mg of folic acid and a sublingual (dissolve under tongue b12). Might be worth a try.

otherwise agree with an earlier poster that breathwork could also be worth a try. Eg spend 10mins a couple of times a day breathing in for 6, hold for 6, out for 6. I found in 2020 I’d stopped breathing in deeply (prob due to covid anxiety) and the breathing out for a long stretch seemed to help.

@AlexStocks did you also get the air hunger/breathlessness?

@givemeanother I started supplementing sublingual b12 4 weeks ago but still no improvement.
