Has anyone got any tips / had luck finding an nhs dentist ?

Failing this , how can I be sure Im not being ripped off if I do go private ?
Googled if and molars can be up to 800 plus the cost of a crown which almost definitely I’d have to have !

Bit of a back story - phoned emergency dental helpline and got an appointment on Friday . Told I need root canal on a molar - something the emergency dentist can’t / don’t do .
Alternative is extraction .NHS would do this but advised that the tooth is salvageable !
I would have to pay whatever band the nhs treatment is if I could find one (don’t get UC anymore as youngest 18)

My old dentist went private years ago .
I don’t have a dental plan .

Helpful / kind advice only please - Im in pain as it is (codeine takes the edge off when bad !)
TIA

Clinically, the best course is to have the root canal and the crown. It's ALWAYS better to save a tooth (and an implant is no fun either if you needed that).
Are you wondering about going private because NHS would do only an extraction?
In your shoes, if NHS would not do the root canal and crown and you were happy with your old dentist, I would get it done there.

Thanks for replying
My old dentist was pretty good - will phone them after I have tried a few (remotely potential nhs dentists first )
