Any ideas while I wait?

In the last 18 months I’ve had two episodes of the same thing and I have no idea what it could be.

I wake up in the night with stomach cramps. I go to the bathroom with diarrhea and when I’m done I pass out. It usually happens twice in the same night - same thing within an hour. I’ve had two occurrences in 18 months.

When I pass out it’s not exactly like fainting. I don’t go floppy, I go rigid and I usually come round after a minute or so.

First time it happened DH suspected a seizure (he found me on the floor) and I went to hospital. Had an MRI and an EEG with no query results. Signed off after a seizure clinic and advised probably more likely to be fainting than a fit. No follow up.

In the seconds before it happens I feel awful, as though I’m going to die. But that could just be panic. I’m also very warm and my heart is racing.

It happened again a a few weeks ago and I’m waiting to see my GP. I feel fine a few days after it happens, very tired but otherwise ok. Diarrhea clears up after 24 hours.

I’m 50, fit and otherwise healthy. I don’t drink.

Has anyone had anything similar?

sorry OP no idea, it sounds scary! Just bumping for traffic but I hope you’re better soon

No idea - if you've had an EEG it can't be abdominal epilepsy - you poor thing. I hope that you get some answers soon.

I've had this three times before. Have been told it's basically 'stomach migraines'

@Arlanymor @queenofwandss @Beachrules Thank you so much for your kindness. I wasn’t expecting a response really. Just looking for somewhere to park what frightens me!

@Beachrules - how similar was what happened to you? If you don’t mind me asking.

Sometimes just before a Vaso vagal episode ( fainting episode) you can present with what look like seizure activity, e.g muscle stiffness and uncontrollable movements, it’s not common but it does happen, ( nurse by background) I’m not sure about your other symptoms however in 10yrs of nursing I’ve seen people faint ( usually when trying to take a blood sample) they may twitch, arms become stiff and some even grunt/ snore, exactly as a epilepsy seizure would look like, but it is just how a faint presents in them😊
